As women, we often have to be careful about our self-rhetoric. Your birth will be exactly that – your birth.
Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you will be right.
In the months leading up to your birth, develop positive self-talk habits. And ensure you listen to yourself. This may seem silly at the beginning, but self-talk can have a great impact on your confidence. And the effect of your self-talk can be good or bad, depending on the conversation is playing out.
If you continue to tell yourself, ‘it will be painful’, ‘I can’t do it’, then you can’t expect much more of yourself in labour. However, if you empower yourself with statements like those in our birth affirmations below, then you will be powerful and strong through birth.
Developing good self-talk habits
A good way to develop better self-talk is by starting to just listen to yourself and what you routinely say about your expectations of your birth. Set yourself a challenge during your fifth month (or earlier) to start taking note of your inner conversations. When you catch yourself criticising or with negative self-speak, immediately change
Set yourself a challenge during your fifth month (or earlier) to start taking note of your inner conversations. When you catch yourself criticising or with negative self-speak, immediately change.
This may be difficult at first. But you can challenge your self-talk by considering if there is any evidence to support your thinking. And if you can’t think of any evidence against the negative speak, then ask yourself, would you mum say that about you? The likely answer is no. If all else fails, keep how you are feeling in perspective either by asking your mum or your bff for their insights.
Changing your self-talk is definitely worth working on.
We believe in you!
